The Playboy Club
The Playboy Bunny costume is recognized around the world and has become part of Playboy's corporate identity. And it all started back in the 60's. So is no wonder that everything that is hip and hot for 2011 comes from that time period. Retro is the keyword and rings in true the words that everything old is new again. You can see this with all the new TV shows, from the Flight Attendants that fly a first class Pan Am Plane to the latest new drama that takes place at the center of the sexual revolution from the Playboy Club. So why not turn to a classic when thinking how to be hotter and sexier than you were last Halloween.
A Private Club
Hugh Hefner started a private club in Chicago and it was a fantasy world he created and the stars were his Playboy bunnies. Working closely with the Playboy Enterprises this new show wanted to keep things as authentic as possible so they needed to get this womens costume perfect. And of course in order to do this all the details must be perfect, right down to the bunny tail.

Wardrobe Notes
An iconic sexy costume that is just a s sexy today as it was back in the 60's. Every girl dreamed of wearing the bunny ears but back then only a few could get into the club. Though this costume is somewhat sparse in fabric it is important that in order to be an authentic bunny you need to pay serious attention to the detail that went into this design. And always remember to do the famous "Bunny Dip" which was a backwards twirling motion, when serving drinks.
Bunny Trivia
A bit of Playboy trivia is that the form-fitting Playboy Bunny outfit, with its fluffy cottontail, white collar and cuffs, and satin ears, was the first service uniform registered at the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
Playboy Bunny Lauren Hutton
Famous Past Bunnies
Gloria Steinem worked at the Manhattan Playboy Club and later wrote the expose that helped make her a star in journalism. Actress Lauren Hutton was a Bunny, as was singer Deborah Harry and Kimba Wood, who trained at the London Club before heading off to Harvard Law. She is now federal Judge Wood.
Susan Sullivan, spent three years at the Playboy Club on Manhattan's East 59th Street before playing the part of Peter Strauss' lawyer girlfriend in "Rich Man, Poor Man". Appearing on the popular Johnny Carson show she said that
"They made you feel you were very, very special, trained you to think that you were a goddess."
Bunny Suit
10 Fashion Colors
The original costume resembled a strapless, one-piece, rayon-satin bathing suit. Accessorized with oversized ears and a tail, it came in 10 colors and numerous sizes, but without the collar and cuffs. Name tags and rosettes were added to the costume in 1961. And no one can deny that these additions only added to the Playboy mystique.
Bunny Ears
The Detached Headpiece
The original ears looked like tjeu were attached to the head band but back in the 60's women wore 'big hair' so in order to keep the hair teased up the designers came up with bunny ears that were actually a headpiece. Make no mistake no playboy bunny costume is complete without the right set of ears.
The Cuff Links
Crisp and Classic
According to Playboy sources the cufflinks that bunnies word had to adhere to the strick rule that when wearing these on the girls wrist the Playboy insignia had to always facing each other. These cuffs are a subtle but very sexy addition to the traditional bunny leotard. Make sure that you include a pair of these to make your Halloween costume completely authentic.
The Tail
Fluffy and Full
Make no mistake no bunny in Hugh Hefner's club would have a tail that wasn't up to par. The fluffy cotton tail absolutely needs to be fluffy and enough so that it never looks like a dead rag. This costume is all about style, quality and authentication.
Tights
Early Bunnies wore black mesh tights until 1962 when the more comfortable sheer black tights were introduced. The girls would wear 2 pairs of hose, this way their legs were as tight as could be. Then as an answer to this in 1968, Playboy worked with a manufacturer to develop the first professional dancers' support tights, sheer to the waistband.
Bunny Cabaret Costume
Playboy Bunny Costumes
Throughout the years, Playboy modified the costumes to reflect current fashion. In the late 1960's there were psychedelic-print costumes and one of Hugh Hefners favorites that he designed himself was the Bunny Cabaret costume complete with mesh stockings, garters and dyed pumps.

The stuff I learn from you, Shari. In addition to all these fascinating Playboy bunny tidbits, you shared with us that Susan Sullivan, the actress, used towas once an authentic Bunny. She still looks lovely these days as she plays the role of the mother of Castle in the TV series of the same name - one of my favorites.
