New York Jets Road to Superbowl XLVI
Play Like a Jet
And Play Like You Mean It
Thats the motto of the NFL coach of the Green Machine New York Jets, Rex Ryan. Follow the NYJ highlights and bookmark this page as it highlights the full schedule for the 2011 season. Be sure to follow these flight boys otherwise known as the NY Jets as they pave their way to the ultimate game of the year when the Superbowl will be played In Indianapolis on February 5, 2012.
You wont want to miss any of the progress of some of the best players of the gridiron as Gang Green shows off the game managing skills of the Quarterback that Mark Sanchez is becoming. Take a tour of Revis Island as Darrell shuts down every receiver the NFL comes at him with. Watch him together with Anthony Cromartie, who is sure to have a tough year ahead of him but together with Revis they are probably the best defensive tandem team any offense will come up against.
SuperBowl Contenders
The New York Jets are definite Super Bowl contenders as the 2011 season is about to begin. And it is a breathe of fresh air around Gotham to be able to say that, as there have been too many years of misery. Since Rex Ryan has come into town New York finally has a team to be very confident in. Under coach Ryan the Jets are a team that has accomplished so much in the past two years leaving little doubt that the Jets are actually a great franchise team and we have a coaching staff to be proud of. As a huge fan I am totally enjoying that this is a team worthy of being labeled as a SB contender. So close we came the last 2 years (one away from the SuperBowl
The team was founded in 1960,and since then the Jets have only won 1 Superbowl. That is one statistic that is going to change Feb. 5, 2012 when the 2 best teams from the NFL meet up at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana for Superbowl XLVI. The Jets have reached two A.F.C. title games in a row since Rex Ryan has taken over as the coach and my crystal ball is saying that the flight boys are heading that way.

The Shut Down Defense
Rex Ryan and most of our 2011 starters are heading into their 3rd year of working together. Sione Pouha, Mike DeVito, David Harris, Bart Scott, Calvin Pace, Bryan Thomas, Darrelle Revis, Jim Leonhard and Eric Smith all have one thing in common; 9 of 11 starters are heading into year number 3 under Ryan's defensive system. Cromartie knowing exactly what to expect playing opposite of Revis, Leonhard coming back from injury as the quarterback of our defense, Wilson no longer being a rookie, Eric Smith getting better with playing experience and Brodney Pool heading into his 2nd year with the Jets. You can bet on the fact that the Jets known for their shutdown attack is ready to go.
Ground and Pound Offense
As a talented, developing QB Mark Sanchez is heading into his 3rd year. And I believe this is one QB that is ready to come into his own. If Sanchez can improve his accuracy and completion percentage, he has all the tools to perform at a high level of play. The Jets have a few new targets for Sanchez like Plaxico Burress and Derrick Mason. These wide receivers have added depth on the outside. The speed, quickness and overall explosiveness that Joe McKnight and Jeremy Kerley bring to our offense is something that I can't wait to see. Some may hate the wildcat package/formation, but Kerley has looked outstanding running the option from under center during the preseason. This kid can fly.
Expect Shonn Greene to have a break out season as the feature work horse running back. And with a well rested Ladanian Tomlinson with his excellent field vision/awareness, and his abilities to catch out of the backfield (52 receptions last year) he can bail Sanchez out of tough situations. He can execute the draw / screen plays to perfection on 3rd down.

And the Game Balls Go to
Rex Ryan handed out five game balls to :
- LaDainian Tomlinson
- Plaxico Burress
- Joe McKnight
- Isaiah Trufant
- Nick Folk
Not one game ball went to any member of his defense, which surrendered an appalling 390 net yards in the Dallas game.
NFL Week 1
Jets 27 Dallas Cowboys 24
Sun, 09/11 at 8:20 PM EDT
When pressure hits you, winners make smart plays. Tony Romo did the opposite. He threw the ball right into Revis Island. And the Jets win on opening night with a thrilling come from behind win. The Jets rally past Cowboys with a wild 4th quarter: Nick Folk kicked a 50-yard field goal with 27 seconds left.
With the game tied at 24, the Cowboys had a chance for a winning drive with 59 seconds left, but Tony Romo was intercepted on the first play by Darrelle Revis, who returned it 20 yards to Dallas' 34. Four plays later, Folk kicked the go-ahead field goal against his former team.
Tribute to 9/11
** The first Sunday of the NFL regular season falls on the 10th anniversary of 9/11. This marks the second time a 9/11 anniversary has fallen on the first Sunday of the NFL season since 2001. In 2005, the fourth anniversary of 9/11 also was on a Sunday.
Tony Romo Visits
Revis Island
Darrelle Revis, of course, made the game-turning interception in the final minute. Ryan credited his defensive coordinator Mike Pettine with the "call of the night." Pettine called "Jet Mike Mix," basically a play in which Revis covers Bryant underneath, with help over the top from Brodney Pool. Duping Romo and Bryant into thinking it was straight man-to-man. Revis, knowing Pool was behind him, took an aggressive approach and jumped the route. Truth be told, Dez Bryant could've done a better job of going for the ball maybe he was exhaused after a night of Revis.
"Whatever team played the hardest the longest is the team that wins." Rex Ryan's words to his team after the game
Now that what I call "Jet" football.

Revenge on the Baltimore Ravens
The Ravens under defensive coach Rex Ryan were known as the league's best defensive when he was in Baltimore. To this day he still has great relationships with many of the Ravens' defensive stars. But the Jets and their coach want to get back at the Ravens for last year loss in Week 1. This should be a tough game for all that are in it and especially for Derrick Mason who will be going up against his old team.

The AFC - A Game of Rivals
One of the best moments for any Jet fan was last January's huge win over the New England Patriots. Rex Ryan turned this game into one of mental toughness as he and Belicheck faced off. With a blow out loss to the Pats early in last season the Jets had a lot to prove . And so they did as most long-suffering Jets fans loved every minute of watching Tom Brady and the AFC East rival Patriots fall out of any hopes of returning ot the SuperBowl for the second year in a row. Last years win is a game that surely ranks among the greatest moments in Jet franchise history. Week 5 in 2011 has the Jets returning to Gillette Stadium in the second week of October. Can they repeat what they did to the Patriots or will the Patriots get revenge?

New York Jets Week 7 Game Highlights
Jets WR Plaxico Burress had a Hall of Fame day with three touchdowns in the Chargers-Jets matchup quickly becoming QB Mark Sanchez red zone target.Mark Sanchez completed 18-of-33 passes for 173 yards and an interception for the Jets who won for the second straight week.
Philip Rivers threw for only 179 yards, his fewest in 22 regular-season games, since Jan. 3, 2010. The Jets had only one sack, in the first quarter, but their pass rush pressured Rivers for much of the afternoon. And thanks to the Jets secondary,Vincent Jackson was without a catch in the second half.
LaDanian Tomlinson's three catches gave him 602 for his career and made him just the fourth running back in NFL history with over 600 receptions.
With the victory, the Jets headed into their bye-week with two consecutive impressive home victories after a three-game road losing streak. They also are off to their first 4-0 start at home since 2004. The 4-3 Jets I think are feeling like a new team. New York will be invigorated and revitalized for their divisional matchup against the surprisingly competitive 4-2 Bills on November 6.

The Jets offense may not have come alive until the 2nd half but Rex Ryans defense suffocated the Buffalo Bills from the start of the game in Orchard Park.
Rex Ryan defense beat the Bills today as they forced three turnovers and twice stopped the Bills on fourth down. Fitzpatrick completed less than 50% of his passes (15-for-31) and finished with a 51.9 quarterback rating.
Fact is the Jets have the best secondary in football.
Ryan Fitzpatrick finished 15-of-31 for 191 yards and two interceptions.
"We just couldn't get anything going, They kept us frustrated all day and didn't allow us to do what we've been doing all year."
Even better news is that Week 9 in the NFL saw the New England Patriots lose to the New York Giants, forcing a three-way tie atop the AFC East division along with the Jets, Bills and New England. The way it breaks down is that if New England wins in NY next week they the win secures the tiebreaker over the Jets and gives the Patriots a 3-1 division record (Buffalo is 1-1). If the Patriots lose that game (keep in mind the Patriots are 0-2 against the Jets at the Meadowlands in the Rex Ryan era) they’re suddenly just a game over .500, staring up at both the Jets and Bills in the division and trailing at least two teams (and likely three) in the AFC North as well.
The way the Jets are coming together at this pivotal point in the season the only way the Pats are going to win in the Meadowlands next week is if they give Belicheck and Brady the game.
Bring on the New England Patriots.

Sanchez Comes Through in Clutch Leads Jets Past Bills
On 3rd-and-11 with less than two minutes remaining, Plaxico Burress as only Plax can do, makes a one-handed grab that salvaged the game-winning drive and led to the Jets 28-24 victory in this clutch win over the Bills.
Steve Johnson in a gross display of bad sportsmanship made fun of Plaxico Buress after he scored a 5 yard TD. Faking like he was shooting himself in the leg, he then goes and mimics how a Jet usually celebrates a TD. Arms extended, flying like a Jet. The worst part of his display was he added a crash landing. Thanks to the refs he got a 15 yard penalty for his antics which then the Bills really paid for, as this 15-yard penalty on the kickoff, the kicker muffed and the Jets then got possession on Buffalo's 36-yard-line.
Burress then scored a touchdown to tie the score at 14-14 going into the half. Karma is a bitch.
"Never tweet during the game but what @StevieJohnson13 did was disrespectful & not needed & should never happen in the #NFL so ill pay half the fine HA!," was the tweet from injured Shawn Merriman who posted the above on Twitter at the half to defend the Buffalo Bills wide receiver

The Jets pulled off another mistake ridden game.
Mark Sanchez completed 19 of 32 passes for 165 yards and avoided throwing an interception after having at least one in five straight games. It was Sanchez's 10th career 4th quarter comeback including the playoffs, and his second in as many weeks.
Santonio "ToneTome" Holmes made another amazing 30 yard TD catchTD giving the Jets the lead for good in 4th quarter.
Running Back Shonn Greene finished with 88 yards on 22 carries and 3 rushing touchdowns. It was Greene who put the icing on the cake with a 25-yard TD giving New York the 34-19 lead.
There must not be anything worse than for the home team to hear the fans of the visiting team as today in Landover, Md the Redskins heard fireman Ed lead the Jet Fans loud and clearly. The “J-E-T-S Jets Jets Jets!” chant, was clearly audible late in the fourth quarter, coming just before the Jets scored their third touchdown in just over three minutes.
The Jets now improve to 7-5, leaving them tied with the Cincinnati Bengals, Tennessee Titans, Oakland Raiders and Denver Broncos in the American Football Conference. The Jets are one of five teams — Cincinnati, Tennessee, Denver and Oakland — with 7-5 records. Because of a tiebreaker disadvantage, the Jets lag behind the Bengals, the Broncos and the Raiders, which means that they would not make the playoffs if the season ended today.

Jets Get to Eight Wins
Rex Ryan had a special introduction for the Jets’ offensive starters before the start of todays game. A perfect start for the the crowd to show true appreciation for the comeback Quarterback. And today against the Chiefs it was duly deserved as Mark Sanchez threw two touchdown passes and added a pair of scores on the ground, as the playoff-hopeful New York Jets overpowered the Kansas City Chiefs in a beautiful win.
Shonn Greene gained a season-high 129 yards on 24 carries with one touchdown for the Jets (8-5), who extended their winning streak to three games.
This is the kind of win the Jets needed though it might have been a costly win,. As Jim Leonhard was lost early with an injured right knee. If Leonhard (right knee) is out for the next few games, that's a big loss as right now there has been no immediate word on the severity.
A big win for Gangreen, and there is nothing better than watching this kind of Jets Football! And for this NY Jets fan, I never can get enough of this one, when Rex looks into the locker room for LT and tells him to break it down, and as LaDanainan Tomilson says on three and the team breaks out into "And the Home of the J*ET*S. The Jets surely will make more moves before the opener with the Cowboys next Sunday. One position that's a question mark right now is their third quarterback.
